The Transcorrèzian or ‘Tacot’
If the Rochers Noires Viaduct is the most impressive passageway of the Transcorrèzian, there are several other delights too, noteably the restored stations at Chirac-Bellevue, Liginiac, Saint Hilaire Luc and Soursac. There is also a crane wagon at Chirac-Bellevue. The Transcorrèzian, called more affectionately the Tacot, was the most used steam tram in Haute-Corrèze, connecting Tulle and Ussel.
Its lines were managed from 1912 to 1925 by the Sociéte des Tramways Départmentalux de la Corrèze. It travelled the corrèzian countryside until 1959. A total of 190km of lines for commercial and passenger transport with no less that 15 stops; Tulle, Laguenne, Espagnac, Saint-Pardoux-la-Croisille, Clergoux, Marcillac-la-Croisille, Lafage-sur-Sombre, Saint-Hilaure-Foissac, Lapleau, Soursac, Saint-Pantaléon-de-Lapleau, Saint-Hilaire-Luc, Neuvic, Liginiac, Chirac-Bellevue and Ussel. It carried modern life into the countryside and opened up small communes towards the bigger towns.
