Forêt de Châteauvert
The Châteauvert forest is a vast massif of predominantly deciduous trees, particularly beech, located in the northeastern part of the commune of Saint-Martial-le-Vieux, which is the highest point in the département at 932 meters. The Châteauvert forest therefore boasts one of the highest beech forests in the region. The forest's ancient woodlands are home to twisted beech trees, often covered in lichen, which give the forest its distinctive appearance. Numerous PNR summer outings are regularly organized in this forest, for its high biodiversity and its flora and fauna.
